Google God

My blog posts are going to deal with how Google is changing our media environment so much that it even affects the way we view and interact with God. I'll discuss the many aspects of Google with relation to the laws of media (what it enhances, retrieves, obsoletes, and reverses) and the abilities it provides the human race.

Google is basically the epitome of technological development and human achievement. They do everything. I was going to include Facebook in my analysis but I'll use Google+ as the example of the social media instead, even though at the current point in time Facebook is wildly more popular. Apple is another innovator that warrants a shout out, but again, Google caught on fast in the computing and smart phone world, as Android phones are becoming more popular that iPhones. Google is working on self-driving cars, which seem too good and futuristic to be true. One of the scariest and most recent projects that Google has embarked on is Project Glass, which will basically make Tony Stark's invention of Iron Man a reality (minus the rockets, those will come soon I'm sure) and will blur the line between media and real life. There will be no difference between the physical environment and our media environment. We will be always plugged in, always available, and always distracted.

So how does this deal with God? I view my relationship with God like a relationship with any other person, though I try (and fail) to give it the most importance. It takes time, effort, and hard work. Basically, when I look at Google's ever-expanding technological efforts, I see the human race trying to live life with the least effort possible. We're trying to gather as much information as we can while saving loads of our precious time. However, a wealth of information creates a poverty of attention. And the question I ask is this: What are we saving our time for?
