Where is your cell phone?
I bet most readers have their cell phones less than a five foot radius from them at this exact moment (and if I was to bet again, some are actually reading this on your cell phone). Let's face it, our cell phones travel everywhere with us and when we don't have them, an awkward looming feeling hangs over us for the entire day. We feel like we are disconnected from the rest of the world even though we are still participating in it.
Is this what we have to look forward to???
I want to take today's post to discuss how are phones are in consistent need of our attention. Your phone never leaves your side, even when you are in the bathroom. How pathetic. I am totally a part of this mayhem too. I depend on my cell phone for everything, internet access to facebook, email, and even an application for school. And let's not forget about messaging systems and GPS. I become lost on a regular basis so having a GPS built into my phone is a lifesaver.
But let's talk about the extremes. I bet we all know someone, or maybe this is you, that can't put the cell phone. You may be surrounded by good friends, but your best friend lies in your hand as you scroll through what is happening on facebook. Last night I witnessed this first hand, and I think it was the straw that broke the camels back. I couldn't believe that one of my friends was more engrossed with facebook world and could not participate in the real world conversation that was occurring around him. Why must we be so dependent on a device? Who is really in control?
I hope this has provided you with some food for thought and makes you put down the cell phone at breakfast, in bed, and when out with friends. Let's be serious, your life does not exist because you have a cell phone. So drop the weapon and get back to your own life!
